Bubble Shooter is a free online bubble popping puzzle. It runs in your browser with no download or sign up, works on phones and computers, and keeps working offline once the page has loaded. Aim your launcher, match three or more colours and clear the board before the ceiling comes down.
Inspired by: Puzzle Bobble (Bust-a-Move), the 1994 puzzle game from Taito.
How to play Bubble Shooter
- Move the mouse or drag your finger to aim. A dotted line shows where the bubble will go.
- Shoot to stick the bubble to the cluster. Match 3 or more of the same colour to pop them.
- Bubbles left hanging with nothing holding them will drop and give bonus points.
- Bank shots off the side walls to reach awkward spots.
- Every few missed shots the ceiling drops one row. Popping bubbles resets the countdown.
- Clear every bubble to move to the next level. If the bubbles cross the red line, the game is over.
Controls
- Keyboard: Left and right arrows aim. Space shoots. X or Down swaps with the next bubble.
- Mouse: Move to aim and click to shoot. Click the small bubble to swap.
- Touch screen: Drag to aim and let go to shoot. Tap the small bubble to swap.
Tips to score higher
- Look for the colour that holds a big part of the cluster up, then pop it to drop many bubbles at once.
- Use bank shots to reach the sides without covering other colours.
- Swap the bubble when the current one does not match anything useful.
- Keep an eye on the ceiling counter at the bottom right.
- Clear from the top of the pile when you can. It is the fastest way to drop lots of bubbles.
The story behind Bubble Shooter
Bubble shooter games trace back to Puzzle Bobble, released by Taito as an arcade game in 1994 and later sold in the West as Bust-a-Move. Players aim a launcher at a growing wall of bubbles and match colours, a simple idea that was easy to learn and hard to put down. Later, many versions appeared on PCs and phones, and the style became one of the most played casual puzzle types online. Lots of us remember sneaking in a quick round on a cyber cafe PC or a phone during a long family function.
