Block Puzzle is a free online puzzle game where you drag shapes onto a 10 by 10 grid and clear full rows and columns. There is no timer, no download and no sign up. It works on phone and desktop, and keeps working offline once the page has loaded.
Inspired by: Drag and drop block puzzle games on phones, such as the 10 by 10 grid puzzles (2016 onwards).
How to play Block Puzzle
- You get three shapes at the bottom of the screen. Drag one onto the grid.
- Shapes cannot be rotated, so think about where each one fits before you drop it.
- Fill a whole row or column to clear it and earn bonus points.
- Clear several lines with one shape, or clear lines in a row, for bigger combos.
- When all three shapes are placed you get three new ones. The game ends when none of your shapes can fit.
Controls
- Keyboard: Arrow keys move the shape on the grid, X switches to the next shape, Space or Enter places it.
- Mouse: Click and drag a shape onto the grid, then release to drop it.
- Touch screen: Drag a shape with your finger. It floats above your finger so you can see where it will land.
Tips to score higher
- Keep the middle of the grid open. Work from the edges so big shapes still have room.
- Before placing a shape, look at all three. Sometimes the second shape completes a line the first one set up.
- Do not fill every gap just to place a piece. Isolated single holes are hard to use later.
- Chain clears back to back to grow your combo bonus.
The story behind Block Puzzle
Block puzzles have been loved since Tetris appeared in 1984, but the drag and drop style is newer. It became popular on phones in the mid 2010s with simple games on a ten by ten board where nothing falls and there is no clock. That made them calm and easy to pick up for a few minutes while waiting for a bus or a chai. The challenge comes from planning a few moves ahead and keeping the grid tidy. If you like fitting things neatly into place, it is hard to stop at one game. This version adds satisfying clears, combos and simple controls.
