How to play Picture Jigsaw
- Choose a size from Easy with 9 pieces to Expert with 36 pieces.
- A random painted picture is cut into pieces that wait in the tray below the board.
- Drag a piece to where you think it belongs. When it is close enough, it snaps in and locks.
- Tap Peek to see a faint copy of the picture on the board. Tap Tidy to line up the loose pieces again.
- Finish the whole picture to win. Faster solves earn a bigger time bonus.
Controls
- Keyboard: Hold X or Shift to peek at the picture. Space or Enter tidies the loose pieces.
- Mouse: Drag pieces with the mouse. Click Peek and Tidy at the top.
- Touch screen: Drag pieces with your finger. Tap Peek and Tidy at the top.
Tips to score higher
- Start with the corner and edge pieces. They have a flat side and are easy to place.
- Look at colour and detail. Sky, water and buildings usually sit in the same part of the picture.
- Use Tidy when the tray gets crowded, so that no piece hides behind another.
- Peek helps, but the time keeps running, so use it only when you are stuck.
- Match the tabs and gaps. A round tab needs a round gap of the same size.
The story behind Picture Jigsaw
The jigsaw puzzle goes back to the 1760s, when a London mapmaker named John Spilsbury glued a map onto thin wood and cut along the borders of countries. Children used these dissected maps to learn geography. The puzzles later moved to cardboard and became a family favourite for rainy days and long holidays. Many Indian homes have a box with a few missing pieces and a story about who lost them. Picture Jigsaw keeps the calm, satisfying click of the last piece, without the hunt under the sofa.
