Keyboard Hero is a free typing game that lights up one letter key at a time on a big colourful keyboard. Press the right key and the next one lights up. It runs in your browser with no download and helps you learn where every letter sits without looking down.
Inspired by: Classic typing tutor programs.
How to play Keyboard Hero
- Place your hands on your real keyboard and look only at the screen.
- One letter key on the screen glows with a yellow outline.
- Press that same letter on your keyboard.
- A correct press moves the glow to a new random letter.
- Keep going and try to find each key faster than before.
Controls
- Keyboard: Press the letter keys A to Z that match the glowing key.
- Mouse: Not used.
- Touch screen: Needs a physical keyboard. It does not work with a phone touch keyboard.
Tips to score higher
- Keep your fingers on the home row (A S D F and J K L) and return there after every press.
- Do not look at your hands. The game is about building muscle memory.
- Go slowly at first. Accuracy comes before speed.
The story behind Keyboard Hero
Typing tutors have been helping people learn the keyboard since the early days of home computers. Programs such as Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing, first released in 1987, turned practice drills into something closer to a game. In India, many of us learned on a beige computer in a school lab or a computer class, racing friends to finish a typing lesson first. Keyboard Hero keeps that spirit alive with one simple job: find the key, press it, repeat.
