Number Memory is a free brain game that tests how many digits you can hold in your head. A number appears for a few seconds, then it hides and you type it back. It runs in your browser with no download or sign up, works on phones and computers, and keeps working offline once loaded.
Inspired by: Classic digit span memory tests.

- Mouse: Click the keypad buttons on the screen.

Tips to score higher
- Split the number into small groups of two or three digits, like a phone number.
- Say the groups quietly in your head. Hearing them helps you hold on to them.
- Turn digits into pictures or dates. 1947 might become a famous year.
- Relax. Staring harder at the number does not help as much as grouping it.
The story behind Number Memory
Psychologists have used digit span tests for well over a century. The idea is simple: read out a string of digits and ask the person to repeat it. In 1956 the psychologist George Miller wrote a famous paper that said most people can hold about seven items, give or take two, in short term memory. That finding is still taught in classrooms today. In India many of us trained this skill without knowing it, remembering long phone numbers, vehicle numbers and exam roll numbers, from the days before every contact lived inside a phone.
