Tips to score higher
- Think about the dealer's face up card. A 5 or 6 is weak for the dealer, so be patient.
- Always split a pair of aces and a pair of 8s. Never split 10s.
- Double down on 11 when the dealer shows a low card.
- Standing on 12 to 16 is often right when the dealer shows 2 to 6.
- Set a small bet and treat your chips as a score to grow, not as a prize.
The story behind Blackjack 21
Blackjack comes from a family of 21 card games played in Europe for hundreds of years, and a version called Vingt-et-Un was popular in French casinos in the 1700s. It spread to North America, where it became a casino staple, and it is a popular topic in books on probability and strategy. Here in India, many of us first learned a version of 21 with a deck of cards at family gatherings, using matchsticks or small coins for stakes. This game keeps that friendly spirit, using only free play chips.
