Crazy Eights is a classic card game where you try to get rid of all your cards before anyone else. This free version runs in your browser with no download or sign up. You play against three computer players on a phone or a computer, and it keeps working offline once the page has loaded.
Inspired by: Crazy Eights, the traditional shedding card game.
How to play Crazy Eights
- Everyone starts with five cards. One card is turned face up to start the discard pile.
- On your turn, play a card that matches the suit or the number of the top card.
- An eight is wild. Play it on anything and then pick the suit that must be played next.
- If you cannot play, tap the deck to draw cards until you get one that fits.
- The first player to empty their hand wins the round and scores the points left in the other hands. Reach 200 points to win the match.
Controls
- Keyboard: This game is played with the mouse. P or Esc pauses.

Tips to score higher
- Save your eights for when you are really stuck, because they are your best escape.
- Get rid of high cards early. Leftover cards count against you when someone else goes out.
- Play the suit you hold the most of, so you keep having cards that match.
- An eight left in your hand at the end costs 50 points, so use it before it is too late.
The story behind Crazy Eights
Crazy Eights belongs to a family of shedding card games, where the aim is to empty your hand, and it has been played for many decades with an ordinary deck of 52 cards. It is easy to learn, which made it a favourite for family evenings, train journeys and school breaks. The same idea of matching colours or numbers lies behind the popular game Uno, which came out in 1971. In many Indian homes, a deck of cards is nearly always in a drawer, and games like this are what the cousins play when the power goes out or the relatives visit.
Questions players ask
Is Crazy Eights free to play here?
Yes. The game is free, with no sign up, no download and no in-game purchases.
How many people play?
You play against three computer players, so there are four players in total.
What happens if I cannot play a card?
You draw from the deck, one card at a time, until you get a card you can play. If the deck runs out, the discard pile is reshuffled.
How is the score worked out?
The winner of a round scores the value of every card left in the other hands. Eights count 50, face cards and tens count 10, aces count 1 and other cards count their number.
Can I play Crazy Eights offline?
Yes. After the first load the game keeps working without internet.
