Spider Solitaire is a patient card game where you build long runs from King down to Ace. This free version runs in your browser with no download or sign up, on phones and computers, and keeps working offline after the first load. Choose one suit for a relaxed game or two suits for a real challenge.
Inspired by: Spider Solitaire from Windows computers.
How to play Spider Solitaire
- Choose 1 suit for an easier game or 2 suits for a harder one.
- Move a card or a run onto a card that is one rank higher. Suits do not have to match when you place it.
- Only runs of the same suit in falling order can be moved together.
- Click the pile at the bottom to deal one new card on every column. Every column needs a card first.
- Build a full run from King to Ace in one suit and it flies off the table. Clear all 8 runs to win.
Controls
- Keyboard: Left and Right pick a column, Up and Down pick a card, Space moves it. X deals a row, U undoes and H shows a hint.
- Mouse: Drag cards to move them, or click a card to send it to the best column. Click the Deal button for a new row.
- Touch screen: Drag cards, or tap one to move it. If a card has two places to go, tap the glowing column you want.
Tips to score higher
- Make empty columns early. They are the most useful tool in the game.
- Try to build on cards of the same suit so your runs stay movable.
- Turn over hidden cards first, before you make tidy moves on open ones.
- Deal a new row only when you have no useful moves left.
- Use the Hint button when you feel stuck. It also tells you when to deal.
The story behind Spider Solitaire
Spider Solitaire belongs to a family of patience games that people have played with a deck of cards for more than two centuries. The two deck Spider layout was known long before computers, but it reached millions of people when Microsoft included it in Windows in the early 2000s. It became a favourite of office workers, students and grandparents alike, often played during a quiet hour on a shared family computer. The one suit game is gentle, while the four suit version is famously tough. This version brings back that calm, thoughtful feeling.
Questions players ask
Is spider solitaire free to play here?
Yes. It is completely free with no sign up and no download.
What is the difference between 1 suit and 2 suits?
With 1 suit every card is a spade, so runs are easy to build. With 2 suits you use spades and hearts, so you must plan more carefully.
Can I undo a move?
Yes. Press the Undo button or the U key as many times as you like. Each undo counts as a move in your score.
Can I play spider solitaire offline?
Yes. Once the page has loaded, the game keeps working without internet.
How is the score worked out?
You start with 500 points. Each move costs 1 point and each finished run adds 100. Two suit games count double.
