How to play Air Hockey
- Choose Vs computer or 2 players on the start screen.
- Move your mallet to hit the puck. You can only play on your own half of the table.
- Send the puck into the goal gap at the other end to score a point.
- The puck bounces off the side walls and slides a long way, so use the walls for tricky angles.
- The first player to reach 7 goals wins the match.
Controls
- Keyboard: Arrow keys move your mallet if you have no mouse. In 2 player mode on a computer, the arrow keys move the top mallet. P or Esc pauses.
- Mouse: Move the mouse to steer the bottom mallet. The mallet follows your pointer.
- Touch screen: Drag your finger on your half of the screen. In 2 player mode each player uses their own half.
Tips to score higher
- Do not chase the puck all the time. Return to the middle of your goal after each hit.
- A bank shot off the side wall is harder for the other side to read than a straight shot.
- Hit the puck while your mallet is moving. A fast mallet gives a fast puck.
- If the puck is slow in front of your goal, clear it to the side first and then attack.
The story behind Air Hockey
Air hockey was developed in the late 1960s by a group of engineers at the Brunswick company in the United States, and it reached arcades and game rooms in the 1970s. A table with tiny holes blows a cushion of air, so the puck floats and slides almost without friction. That is what makes the game so quick and so loud. Many of us first played it at a mall game zone or a birthday party, with a friend on the other side and a growing crowd around the table. This version puts that table in your pocket, with the same speed and the same noisy joy of a goal.
