Hoop Shot is a free basketball game for your browser. Drag back and let go, or flick upward, to throw the ball into the hoop. You have 60 seconds to score as much as you can, and the hoop starts to move as you get better. There is no download or sign up, and it works on phones, computers and offline.
Inspired by: Arcade basketball machines and mobile flick basketball games.
How to play Hoop Shot
- Press anywhere near the bottom, drag back and let go to throw. Flicking upward works too.
- A longer drag throws the ball harder. The dotted line previews the first part of the flight.
- Score 2 points for a basket. A swish that touches nothing earns a bonus point.
- Three baskets in a row put you on fire and add more bonus points.
- After a few baskets the hoop starts to move. Keep scoring until the 60 seconds run out.
Controls
- Keyboard: Left and Right change the angle, Up and Down change power and Space throws.
- Mouse: Press, drag back and release to throw.
- Touch screen: Drag back with your finger and let go, or flick upward.
Tips to score higher
- Short, smooth drags are more accurate than very long ones.
- Aim for a high arc. Balls dropping from above go in more easily.
- Watch the hoop for one swing and throw so the ball arrives where the hoop will be.
- Swishes are worth more, so try to avoid touching the rim.
- Keep a streak going for extra points.
The story behind Hoop Shot
Basketball was invented in 1891 by James Naismith in Springfield, Massachusetts, who used two peach baskets and a soccer ball. Shooting hoops later became an arcade favourite, with coin machines where you threw as many balls as you could before the timer ran out. Those cabinets taught a generation that rhythm and a steady hand beat raw power. In India, a hoop at a school or a neighbourhood court has always been a place to meet friends after class. This game brings that simple urge to practise one more shot onto your screen.
