How to play Bowling
- Place the ball anywhere along the foul line by dragging it sideways, or with the Left and Right keys.
- Swipe up to roll. A faster swipe makes a faster ball, and a curved swipe makes the ball hook.
- On a keyboard, press Space to roll. Time the power bar, and use Up and Down to set the curve.
- You get two rolls per frame to knock down all ten pins. Knocking all ten with the first roll is a strike.
- Clear the rest with your second roll for a spare. Strikes and spares earn bonus points from the next rolls.
- After ten frames the game ends. A perfect game scores 300.
Controls
- Keyboard: Left and Right move the ball, Up and Down set the curve, Space rolls. Watch the power bar and press at the right moment.
- Mouse: Drag the ball sideways, then press and swipe up to roll. Bend the swipe to hook the ball.
- Touch screen: Drag the ball sideways, then swipe up. The arrows and Roll button also work.
Tips to score higher
- Aim for the pocket, the gap between the front pin and the pin just beside it. It gives the best chance of a strike.
- A gentle curve from the outside edge brings the ball back into the pocket.
- If a pin stands on one side after your first roll, move the ball to the opposite side for the spare.
- Do not swipe too hard. A smooth, fast swipe is steadier than a wild one.
The story behind Bowling
Games with pins and a rolling ball are thousands of years old, and similar games have been found in ancient Egypt. Modern ten pin bowling grew in the United States in the 1800s, and the rules we use today were set down in 1895. The first automatic pinsetters arrived in the 1950s, which made bowling alleys a popular place to meet. In Indian cities, bowling lanes in malls became a weekend favourite for families and office teams from the 2000s. This version keeps the same scoring and the same joy of a clean strike, right in your browser.
