Darts is a free online dartboard game where you race from 301 down to exactly zero. The board uses the real layout with doubles, trebles and the bullseye. It runs in your browser with no download or sign up, works on phones and computers, and keeps working offline once loaded.
Inspired by: Pub darts and the 301 game.
How to play Darts
- You start on 301 and throw three darts each turn.
- Move the mouse, or drag your finger, to aim. The cross wobbles, so time your throw.
- Click, or lift your finger, to throw. Your dart scores the section it lands in.
- The outer thin ring is a double and the inner thin ring is a treble. The green ring is 25 and the red centre is the bullseye for 50.
- You must finish on a double or the bullseye. Going below zero, or leaving 1, is a bust and the turn is cancelled.
Controls
- Keyboard: Arrow keys move the aim. Space throws. P or Esc to pause.
- Mouse: Move to aim and click to throw.
- Touch screen: Drag to aim, with the cross shown above your finger, and lift to throw.
Tips to score higher
- Treble 20 is worth 60 and it is the best target in the early game.
- Throw when the cross passes over your target rather than chasing it.
- Plan your finish. Leave yourself an even number up to 40 so you can finish on a double.
- If you are stuck on an odd number, score a single to leave an even number.
The story behind Darts
Darts grew from a pastime in English pubs in the 1800s. The board layout in use today is often credited to Brian Gamlin, a carpenter from Bury in England, who is said to have designed it around 1896. Over the next century darts became a favourite in pubs, clubs and living rooms, and television made champions into heroes. The 301 and 501 games are the most common formats, with the rule that you must finish on a double. Many of us played darts at a cousin's wedding or a college fest, and this little board gives you the same friendly competition.
Questions players ask
Is Darts free?
Yes. It is free, with no sign up and no download.
Why must I finish on a double?
That is the standard rule in darts. A double means the outer thin ring or the bullseye, which counts as a double 25.
What is a bust?
If your turn would take you below zero, leave you on 1, or finish without a double, the turn is cancelled and your score returns to where it was at the start of the turn.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Drag to aim and lift your finger to throw.
How many turns do I get?
You have 20 turns to reach exactly zero.
