Asteroid Blaster is a free online space shooter in the style of the classic arcade game. Turn, thrust and fire to break rocks into smaller pieces and avoid flying saucers. It runs in your browser with no download or sign up, works on phones and computers, and keeps working offline once loaded.
Inspired by: Asteroids (Atari, 1979).
How to play Asteroid Blaster
- Turn the ship with Left and Right, and press Up to fire the thruster. The ship keeps drifting, so plan your moves.
- Press Space to shoot. You can have five shots on screen at once.
- Large rocks split into two medium rocks, and those split into small ones. Smaller rocks are worth more points.
- Flying saucers appear now and then. The small saucer aims at you and pays 1000 points.
- Press X or Shift to warp to a random spot in an emergency, but it can go wrong. You get an extra ship every 10,000 points.
Controls
- Keyboard: Left and Right to turn, Up to thrust, Space to fire, X or Shift to warp, P or Esc to pause.
- Mouse: The game is played with the keyboard or the on-screen buttons.
- Touch screen: Use the left and right arrow buttons to turn, Thrust to fly and Fire to shoot. Swipe down on the screen to warp.
Tips to score higher
- Do not thrust all the time. Short bursts keep the ship under control.
- Shoot the big rocks from a distance, then clean up the small pieces as they come to you.
- Stay near the middle of the screen. Edges bring rocks from both sides because the screen wraps around.
- Take out the saucer quickly. Its shots are the most dangerous thing on screen.
The story behind Asteroid Blaster
Asteroids was released by Atari in 1979, designed by Lyle Rains and Ed Logg. It used crisp line graphics on a vector screen and became one of the biggest arcade hits of its time. The idea of splitting rocks, wrapping around the edges and fighting saucers set the pattern for countless space shooters. Many people first played it in an arcade, a hotel lobby or a friend's home console. For anyone who grew up in the 90s, the thump of the rocks and the hum of the saucer are sounds that bring the whole era back.
