Brick Breaker is a free online paddle and ball game with 10 hand made levels. Bounce the ball, smash every brick and catch falling power-ups. It runs in your browser with no download or sign up, works on phones and computers, and keeps working offline once loaded.
Inspired by: Breakout (1976) and the Brick Breaker game on BlackBerry phones.
How to play Brick Breaker
- Move the paddle with the mouse, your finger or the Left and Right keys.
- Click, tap or press Space to launch the ball.
- Where the ball lands on the paddle changes its angle. Hit with the edge for a sharp angle.
- Break all the bricks to finish the level. Grey steel bricks can not be broken, so ignore them.
- Catch capsules for a wide paddle, multi ball, slow ball or laser. You have 3 lives.
Controls
- Keyboard: Left and Right arrows or A and D move the paddle. Space launches the ball.
- Mouse: Move the mouse to slide the paddle. Click to launch.
- Touch screen: Drag your finger to slide the paddle. Tap to launch, or use the arrow pad and Go button.
Tips to score higher
- Aim for the sides of the paddle to control the angle instead of always hitting the middle.
- Dig a path to the top of the bricks. A ball trapped above them clears many bricks fast.
- Take the slow ball capsule when the ball gets quick.
- Multi ball is great but keep an eye on every ball.
- Break the multi hit bricks that show numbers when the ball has a clear line.
The story behind Brick Breaker
Breakout arrived in arcades in 1976 from Atari, designed by Nolan Bushnell and Steve Bristow, with help from a young Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs on the hardware. The idea of a paddle, a ball and a wall of bricks was copied and improved for decades, with power-ups added in games like Arkanoid. Many of us in India met it on a BlackBerry, where the little Brick Breaker game filled every train ride and every waiting room. The trackball made the paddle feel smooth and the game felt just right.
