Castle Defense is a free tower defense game that runs in your browser. Place four kinds of towers beside a winding road, upgrade them and stop 15 waves of raiders before they reach your castle. There is no download or sign up, it works on phones and computers, and it keeps working offline once loaded.

How to play Castle Defense
- Pick a tower in the shop at the bottom, then click or tap a free green square next to the road.
- Press Start wave to send the next group of raiders. You can call a wave early, but you earn gold even if you wait.
- Kill raiders to earn gold. Spend it on new towers or upgrade the ones that are working well.
- Tap a tower on the map to upgrade it up to level 3 or to sell it for 70 percent of what you paid.
- Stop all 15 waves, including two bosses, and keep at least one life to win.
Controls
- Keyboard: Keys 1 to 4 pick a tower, Space starts the wave, U upgrades the selected tower, the Down arrow sells it and X changes the speed.
- Mouse: Click a tower in the shop, then a free square. Click a built tower to see its range, upgrade or sell it.
- Touch screen: Tap a tower in the shop, then tap a free square. Tap a tower on the map to upgrade or sell it.
Tips to score higher
- Build near the bends of the road. Towers there can shoot at enemies for longer.
- Cannons cannot hit flying raiders, so keep a few arrow, frost or laser towers ready for them.
- Frost towers slow enemies down, which gives every other tower more time to fire.
- Knights wear armour that blocks weak shots. Use cannons and lasers against them.
- Upgrading a good tower is often better value than building a new weak one.
The story behind Castle Defense
Tower defense games became popular in the 2000s, first as custom maps in strategy games and then as stand alone browser and phone games. The idea is simple: you cannot move the enemy, but you can decide where to place your defences. That mix of planning and watching your plan work is why many people lose an evening to it. Games like this found a big audience on early Flash sites and later on smartphones, and the spirit of that era is what Castle Defense brings back, with its own towers, its own raiders and fifteen waves of rising trouble.
