Galaxy Shooter is a free space shooter for your browser. Fly your ship against waves of alien formations that swoop and dive bomb, collect power-ups and take on a boss every 5 waves. It needs no download or sign up, works on phones and computers and keeps working offline once loaded.
Inspired by: Galaxian (1979) and Galaga (1981).
How to play Galaxy Shooter
- Your ship fires by itself. All you have to do is move.
- Dodge the aliens as they swoop down and the bullets they fire.
- Shoot every alien to clear the wave. Diving aliens are worth double points.
- Catch the blue D capsule for double shot, and a second one for triple shot. A red plus gives an extra life.
- Every fifth wave brings a boss with a health bar. You have 3 lives.
Controls
- Keyboard: Arrow keys or WASD move the ship.
- Mouse: Move the mouse and the ship follows.
- Touch screen: Drag your finger anywhere to fly. The ship stays above your finger. The arrow pad also works.
Tips to score higher
- Stay near the bottom and slide sideways. Most danger comes from above.
- Aliens that are about to dive wiggle out of formation, so be ready to move.
- Shoot diving aliens for double points, but only when you have room to dodge.
- Keep moving during boss fights. The ring of bullets has gaps.
- Chain kills quickly to build a combo multiplier.
The story behind Galaxy Shooter
Namco's Galaxian arrived in arcades in 1979 and did something new. Instead of sitting still like the aliens in Space Invaders, its enemies broke away from the formation and dived at the player. Galaga followed in 1981 and added dual fighters, bonus stages and a playful rhythm that fans still love. In India, these cabinets glowed in video parlours and shopping arcades, where a few coins bought half an hour of pure concentration. The quick tap of the fire button and the thrill of a near miss are exactly what we wanted to capture here.
