Ski Slope is a free online skiing game where you race down an endless mountain, dodge obstacles and try to escape a hungry yeti. It runs in your browser with no download or sign up, works on phones and computers, and keeps working offline once the page has loaded.
Inspired by: SkiFree, the skiing game that shipped with Windows computers in the early 1990s.
How to play Ski Slope
- Steer your skier left and right as you slide down the slope. Pointing straight down is the fastest.
- Avoid trees, rocks, stumps and other skiers. Each crash costs one of your three hearts.
- Hit a ramp to jump. Press Space or tap Trick while you are in the air to do a flip for bonus points.
- Small snow bumps slow you down, so go around them when you can.
- After 2000 metres a yeti starts chasing you. Keep your speed up and do not crash.
- Your score grows with the distance you ski and the tricks you land.
Controls
- Keyboard: Left and right arrows or A and D to steer. Down to tuck and go faster, up to slow down. Space for a flip in the air. P pauses.
- Mouse: Press and hold on the game screen, then move left or right of your skier to steer.
- Touch screen: Use the arrow pad to steer, or drag on the screen. Tap the Trick button in the air for a flip.
Tips to score higher
- Look well ahead on the slope and make small turns early. Late sharp turns slow you down.
- Do the flip right after you take off. Landing in the middle of a flip is a crash.
- Use the tuck when the way is clear to build up speed for the yeti run.
- Turning too far sideways makes you slow, which is dangerous when the yeti is near.
- Ramps are worth chasing when the path after them looks clear.
The story behind Ski Slope
SkiFree was a small skiing game made by Chris Pirih and included with Microsoft Windows entertainment packs in the early 1990s. Many people remember it for one thing above all: the yeti that appeared after you had skied far enough and chased you down the mountain. It was simple, funny and surprisingly tense. For lots of us, it was one of the first games we ever played on a school or office computer. Ski Slope is our own take on a downhill run, with new art, ramps, flips and a yeti who never gets tired.
