Snake vs Block is a free arcade game where a chain of balls climbs a never ending track. Steer left and right, collect numbered balls to grow, and break numbered blocks before they break you. It runs in your browser with no download or sign up, works on phones and computers, and keeps working offline once loaded.
Inspired by: Popular mobile snake and number block games.
How to play Snake vs Block
- Drag your finger or mouse left and right to steer the snake. Arrow keys work too.
- The number above the snake is its length. Yellow balls with numbers add that much length.
- Hitting a block takes one length for each point on its number, and the block loses one point at the same time.
- When a block's number reaches zero it breaks and you move on. If your length reaches zero, the run is over.
- Thin white walls stop you from moving sideways, so plan your lane early.
- Travel far and break many blocks to build a high score.
Controls
- Keyboard: Left and right arrow keys, or A and D, to steer.
- Mouse: Press and drag left or right.
- Touch screen: Drag your finger across the screen, or use the two arrow buttons.
Tips to score higher
- Do not rush into a big block. Slide to a free lane and look for a ball to grow first.
- Small blocks are safe points. Breaking them also clears the way.
- Collect balls in a line, then use them all at once on a block you could not break before.
- Walls can trap you in a lane. Check the route before you enter a gap.
- If a block is too big, dodge into the lane next to it. There is always one open lane.
The story behind Snake vs Block
Games where you control a growing line have been popular since the 1970s, from the arcade game Blockade to the famous snake on Nokia phones. In the 2010s a new style arrived on smartphones, where a snake of balls moved upward through numbered blocks and the length became your health bar. These games were easy to learn with one finger, which made them perfect for short breaks in a metro queue or a college canteen. Snake vs Block brings back that quick, one thumb thrill, with our own look and feel.
