Worm Arena is a free online arena game where you steer a glowing worm, eat orbs and grow longer than eight computer worms. It runs in your browser with no download or sign up, works on phone and desktop, and keeps working offline once the page has loaded.
Inspired by: Slither style io games where you grow a snake in a crowded arena (2016 onwards).
How to play Worm Arena
- Move the mouse, drag your finger or use the arrow keys to steer your worm.
- Eat the glowing orbs to grow longer. Bigger orbs come from worms that have popped.
- Hold click, Space or the Boost button to speed up. Boosting burns a little of your length, so use it with care.
- If your head touches another worm or the red border of the arena, you pop and your length turns into orbs.
- Cut in front of the bots so they crash into your body. Check the leaderboard and the minimap to see where you stand.
Controls
- Keyboard: Arrow keys or A and D to turn. Hold Space or Shift to boost. P to pause.
- Mouse: Move the mouse to steer toward it. Hold the mouse button to boost.
- Touch screen: Touch and drag to steer. Hold the Boost button below the game to speed up.
Tips to score higher
- Stay near the middle early on. The edge is deadly and the bots clear it quickly.
- Boost past the head of a bot, then curve across its path. It often cannot turn in time.
- Do not boost all the time. Your worm loses length every second you do.
- When a long worm pops, it leaves a rich trail of orbs. Rush in, but watch for other worms.
The story behind Worm Arena
Arena games where every player is a growing snake became a worldwide hit in the mid 2010s, when simple browser games were played on school computers and phones. They mixed the old snake idea, made famous by Nokia phones in the late 1990s, with the thrill of a crowded map. You start tiny and careful and slowly become the longest creature on screen, until one bad turn ends it all. This game follows that idea but keeps it friendly, with computer worms and no waiting for servers. It is a good quick game for a short break.
Questions players ask
Is Worm Arena free?
Yes. It is free to play, with no sign up and no download.
Am I playing against real people?
No. The other worms are computer bots, so the game works offline and never needs a server.
How does boosting work?
Boost makes your worm faster, but it burns a little length and leaves small orbs behind. Use it to escape or to cut in front of others.
What happens when I die?
Your worm pops into orbs and the game shows your length and how many worms you popped. You can start again right away.
Can I play on a phone?
Yes. Drag your finger to steer and hold the Boost button to speed up.
