- If you are wrong, you lose one of your four mistakes. The game tells you when you were one word away.
- Groups range from easy to hard. Some words will look like they fit more than one group, so think carefully.

- Use Shuffle when you feel stuck. A new layout often shows a new link.
- Groups can be about meaning, such as animals, or about wordplay, such as words that go before the same word.
- If the game says you were one word away, swap just one of your four words.
The story behind Four Groups
Word grouping puzzles became a daily habit for many people in 2023, when a newspaper puzzle asked players to find four groups of four related words. The idea itself is much older. Teachers have long used odd one out games and sorting games to help children see links between words, and quiz shows often ask contestants for the thing that connects a list. The fun comes from the small moment when a hidden link suddenly clicks. Four Groups keeps that spark with simple English words, friendly themes and a puzzle you can finish during a tea break.
