Word Invaders is a free typing game where words fall from the sky like invaders and you blast them by typing. Waves get faster and the words get longer. It runs in your browser with no download or sign up, works on phone and desktop, and keeps working offline once loaded.
Inspired by: Typing tutor shooters and classic space invader games.
How to play Word Invaders
- Press Play. Words begin to fall toward the red line.
- Type the first letter of any word to lock on to it, then keep typing the rest of its letters.
- When the last letter is typed, the word is blasted and you earn points.
- A wrong letter breaks your combo. Press Backspace to drop your target and pick another word.
- If three words reach the line, the game is over. Each new wave is faster and uses longer words.
Controls
- Keyboard: Type the letters you see. Backspace drops your current target. Esc pauses.
- Mouse: No mouse needed. Use the keyboard.
- Touch screen: Tap the letters on the on-screen keyboard. The Del key drops your current target.
Tips to score higher
- Aim for the lowest word first. It is the one closest to landing.
- Do not look at your hands. Reading ahead on the screen makes you faster.
- Accuracy matters more than speed at first. A clean combo earns far more points.
- If you mistype and get stuck, press Backspace and choose a different word.
The story behind Word Invaders
Typing games have helped people learn the keyboard since the 1980s and 1990s, when schools used simple programs to teach touch typing on early computers. Many of them used falling words, because the pressure of a deadline makes practice exciting instead of boring. In India, many of us first learned to type in a computer lab or at a typing institute, where speed and accuracy were a point of pride. Word Invaders keeps that idea but adds waves, combos and a spaceship, so practising feels like play.

Can it help me type faster?
Playing regularly can build speed and accuracy, since you have to read and type quickly. It is a fun way to practise, though not a full course.
